How Much Does a Zirconia Arch Cost? What to Expect at Grafton Dental Care

By Dr. Anurag Gupta, DMD · Grafton Dental Care, Grafton, MA

Researching full-arch dental implants puts you face-to-face with one term almost immediately: zirconia arch. The cost, the longevity, the maintenance — patients want straight answers. This post gives you all three, plus a real case from our Grafton, MA office and a breakdown of every pricing option we offer, including the stepping-stone path for patients not ready to commit to the full investment today.

A Real Case: From Missing Upper Teeth to a Full Zirconia Arch

Before and after zirconia arch — missing and failing upper teeth replaced with full zirconia bridge at Grafton Dental Care, Grafton MA
Before & after: Full zirconia arch at Grafton Dental Care — Dr. Anurag Gupta, DMD

This patient came in with significant upper arch failure — several missing teeth and compromised remaining ones that couldn’t be saved. She wanted permanent teeth that looked natural and never came out. After a 3D CBCT scan and treatment planning, we placed four implants and delivered a temporary fixed bridge the same day. Several months later, once the implants had fully integrated with the bone, we placed the final zirconia arch shown above.

The sections below cover why zirconia outperforms other materials, what the investment looks like, and what your path to a result like this could be.

What Is a Zirconia Arch?

A zirconia arch — also called a full-arch zirconia bridge — is a fixed, implant-supported prosthetic that replaces an entire upper or lower set of teeth. Milled from a single block of zirconia ceramic, the bridge attaches permanently to four to six implants anchored in the jawbone. Unlike dentures, it stays in place around the clock. No shifting, no clicking, nothing to remove at night.

Zirconia (zirconium dioxide) is a high-strength ceramic first developed for industrial and aerospace use. In dentistry, it became the material of choice for full-arch restorations because it combines exceptional strength with the translucency that makes teeth look natural. A well-made zirconia arch is indistinguishable from natural teeth in photographs and in person.

Why Zirconia? The Benefits Over Other Materials

Not all full-arch prosthetics are made from zirconia. Earlier generations used acrylic or porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) bridges, and some practices still offer hybrid acrylic arches at lower cost. Here is why zirconia is worth the difference:

Strength and fracture resistance. Zirconia ranks among the hardest ceramics used in dentistry. Acrylic chips, cracks, and wears under normal chewing forces over time. For patients who grind their teeth, this matters particularly — an acrylic arch under heavy bite forces may need replacement within five to ten years. A properly fabricated zirconia arch rarely fails for the same reason.

Biocompatibility. Zirconia is metal-free. PFM bridges can cause gum discoloration, metal taste, and soft-tissue reactions over time. Zirconia produces none of these. For patients with metal sensitivities, it’s the clear choice.

Aesthetics. Modern monolithic zirconia mimics the light transmission of natural enamel. Teeth don’t look opaque or artificial. When properly shaded, the result photographs exactly like natural teeth — as you can see in the case above.

Hygiene. The zirconia surface is non-porous. Plaque and bacteria don’t adhere to it the way they adhere to acrylic. Home cleaning is easier and the risk of peri-implant inflammation drops over the long term.

How Long Does a Zirconia Arch Last?

A full zirconia arch can last 20 years or more. Durability depends on three things: the quality of the initial placement, how well the implants integrate with the bone, and your home care routine.

The titanium implants anchored in your jawbone are designed to be permanent. Through osseointegration they fuse with bone and, absent major health changes or trauma, last a lifetime. The zirconia prosthetic may eventually need refinishing or replacement, but zirconia ages slowly and predictably.

For comparison: acrylic hybrid arches typically need refinishing or replacement every 7 to 10 years due to staining, wear, and fractures. Zirconia arches under normal bite conditions routinely exceed 15 to 20 years without replacement.

Maintenance: What Caring for a Zirconia Arch Looks Like

Full-arch implants require maintenance. Patients who go in knowing this adapt faster than those who expect zero upkeep.

Daily home care. Brush twice daily with a soft-bristle brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Since the bridge has no individual gaps between teeth, clean the gum line and the underside where the bridge meets the implant connectors using a water flosser or floss threaders. Most patients manage this in three to five minutes once the routine is established.

Professional visits. Come in every six months for a professional cleaning and implant health check. We use specialized instruments to clean the underside of the bridge, verify the implant-to-bone connection, and evaluate the prosthetic’s integrity. Occasionally the bridge is removed for a deeper clean — a routine 30-minute procedure.

Night guard. If you grind or clench, we’ll fit you with a custom night guard. Zirconia has limits under extreme nocturnal forces, and a night guard extends the life of the restoration considerably.

Diet. Once fully healed, a zirconia arch handles steak, raw vegetables, crusty bread, apples. Avoid biting into ice cubes, hard candies, or anything that would crack a natural tooth. Otherwise, eat normally.

What Does a Zirconia Arch Cost at Grafton Dental Care?

At Grafton Dental Care, the nXtsmile Zirconia Full Arch is $23,795 per arch.

That price covers surgical placement of four to six implants, the temporary arch delivered the day of surgery so you leave with teeth, the final custom-fabricated permanent zirconia bridge, and all follow-up care through case completion.

Financing through CareCredit and Cherry brings the monthly cost to approximately $452/month with approved credit. At your complimentary consultation, we’ll review your bone structure, arch requirements, and insurance benefits and give you an exact quote.

Not Ready for the Full Investment? The Stepping Stone Approach

We offer the nXtsmile Transitional Full Arch as a stepping stone — a fixed, implant-supported bridge placed on the exact same implant foundation as the zirconia arch, at a lower starting cost.

nXtsmile Transitional Full Arch — $16,291/arch. Fixed teeth placed the same day on your permanent implant foundation. The prosthetic is a high-quality transitional bridge rather than zirconia. Since the implants are identical to those used for the zirconia arch, upgrading later only means replacing the prosthetic — no additional surgery. Financing from $317/month.

Start with the Transitional, get your life back, and upgrade to the permanent zirconia arch when you’re ready. The implants stay. You don’t start over.

We also offer Snap-In Implant-Supported Dentures ($8,633/arch, financing from $168/month) for patients with existing dentures or limited bone structure who want improved stability. Snap-in dentures use a different implant configuration and are not a stepping stone to the zirconia arch.

Pricing disclaimer: All prices listed are subject to change. Your exact treatment cost depends on your anatomy, bone volume, the number of implants required, and any preparatory procedures such as bone grafting. An exact quote will be provided at your complimentary consultation. Financing terms are subject to credit approval.

What to Expect: The Timeline

A full zirconia arch is a two-phase process.

Day of surgery. Implants are placed and a temporary fixed arch is delivered the same day. You leave with teeth.

Healing phase (3 to 6 months). The implants integrate with the bone. You wear the temporary arch through this phase — it looks good and functions well, but it’s not the final zirconia restoration.

Final placement. Once imaging confirms full integration, we take impressions for the custom zirconia bridge. Lab fabrication takes two to three weeks, after which Dr. Gupta places and adjusts the final arch. Most patients describe this appointment as the easy one — the hard work happened at surgery.

Total time from consultation to final zirconia: approximately 6 to 9 months, depending on healing speed and any bone grafting required beforehand.

Is a Zirconia Arch Right for You?

The best candidates are patients who:

  • Are missing most or all teeth in one or both arches, or have teeth that cannot be saved
  • Have sufficient jawbone volume to support four to six implants (or can achieve this through grafting)
  • Are in generally good health without uncontrolled conditions that impair healing, such as unmanaged diabetes
  • Want a permanent, fixed result — not a removable appliance
  • Are committed to regular maintenance visits

A CBCT 3D scan at your consultation gives us precise bone volume data. In most cases we can confirm candidacy and finalize your treatment plan at that same visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an All on 4 zirconia arch cost the same everywhere?
No. All-on-4 refers to the surgical technique — four implants placed at specific angles to maximize bone contact. The zirconia arch is the prosthetic attached to those implants. Pricing varies by provider based on implant brand, lab quality, and what’s included in the fee. At Grafton Dental Care, $23,795 covers implants, the temporary arch, the final zirconia bridge, and follow-up care through case completion.

How does a zirconia arch differ from veneers or crowns?
Veneers and crowns attach to existing natural teeth. A zirconia arch replaces an entire arch of teeth on implants with no remaining natural teeth involved. Compare it against other full-arch prosthetics (acrylic hybrids, PFM bridges, snap-in dentures) rather than single-tooth restorations.

Does insurance cover any of the cost?
Most dental insurance policies provide partial coverage for implant-related treatment — the amount varies by plan. We submit a pre-authorization before any treatment begins so you know exactly what your plan covers. We accept most PPO plans including Cigna, MetLife, Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Guardian, Aetna, and United Healthcare. Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted.

What if I only need one arch?
Pricing is per arch. Many patients start with one and address the second later. Your consultation will identify which arch is the clinical priority and whether treating both at once offers any advantage in your case.
